4月21日上午，墨尔本大学云计算与分布式系统实验室主任Rajkumar Buyya教授（IEEE Fellow）应自动化学院刘丽副教授的邀请，在机电信息楼1104会议室，举办了题为“Cost-Efficient Deployment of Big Data Workflow Applications in Cloud Computing Environments”的学术报告。自动化学院部分老师和研究生参加了学术报告。
云计算已经成为IT行业的流行语之一，并使得“计算效用”成为现实。云计算提供了基础设施即服务、平台即服务、软件即服务，可以使消费者以基于订阅的即用即付的模式进行使用。云服务供应商可按照资源使用时间和用户所需的服务质量（QoS）收取费用。因此企业和大数据应用需要工具和平台以按需满足用户QoS要求、并以较低的成本快速地在云上部署。
Rajkumar Buyya教授阐述了6个方面的内容：1）展望21世纪的计算服务愿景，列举能使效用计算成为现实的IT模式；2）介绍云/大数据计算和应用开发模型并提出了其面临的机会和挑战；3）提出了一种利用虚拟化技术创建以市场为导向和弹性的云创新架构；4）介绍了处理资源密集型的云应用平台Aneka和基于java的Cloudbus工作流引擎，应用该平台可以快速的在云上开发并部署云/大数据应用，并为其在个人/公共云端的部署提供符合服务水平协议的资源；5）在多云环境下和有时间限制的情况下，对利用linux虚拟机如何运行Montage工作流应用作出了详细的介绍，同时通过实验结果对完成时间和花费进行了分析和评估；6）阐述了云计算相关的进一步可研究问题和方向。Rajkumar Buyya教授还与师生就感兴趣的问题进行了互动交流。

Dr. Rajkumar Buyya is a Fellow of IEEE, Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Future Fellow of the Australian Research Council, and Director of the Cloud Computing and Distributed Systems (CLOUDS) Laboratory at the University of Melbourne, Australia. He is also serving as the founding CEO of Manjrasoft, a spin-off company of the University, commercializing its innovations in Cloud Computing. He has authored over 525 publications and five text books including "Mastering Cloud Computing" published by McGraw Hill, China Machine Press, and Elsevier/Morgan Kaufmann for Indian, Chinese and international markets respectively. He is one of the highly cited authors in computer science and software engineering worldwide (h-index=98, g-index=205, over 45900 citations). Microsoft Academic Search Index ranked Dr. Buyya as the world's top author in distributed and parallel computing between 2007 and 2015. "A Scientometric Analysis of Cloud Computing Literature" by German scientists ranked Dr. Buyya as the World's Top-Cited (#1) Author and the World's Most-Productive (#1) Author in Cloud Computing.
Software technologies for Grid and Cloud computing developed under Dr. Buyya's leadership have gained rapid acceptance and are in use at several academic institutions and commercial enterprises in 40 countries around the world. Dr. Buyya has led the establishment and development of key community activities, including serving as foundation Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing and five IEEE/ACM conferences. These contributions and international research leadership of Dr. Buyya are recognized through the award of "2009 IEEE TCSC Medal for Excellence in Scalable Computing" from the IEEE Computer Society TCSC. Manjrasoft's Aneka Cloud technology developed under his leadership has received "2010 Frost & Sullivan New Product Innovation Award". He served as the foundation Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing.
